Franz Schubert - Moments Musicaux, Op. 94-3
You know how some things seem find their way to the very back corners of your mind, only to come back into view much later, and with great clarity? This is a memory that just returned to me. I played Moments Musicaux for my sixth grade recital. I was nervous, of course, but once I was seated with the keys in front of me, my composure returned.
I didn’t care if my hair was parted in a way I was not too fond of. I didn’t care about my shirt being tucked in (I hated this, usually). I took solace in the keys. I played flawlessly, as far as I was concerned in my twelve year old mind. I took a bow, waved at my smiling parents in the left-front section, sighed, smirked, even, and walked off. That’s what this piece is to me.
